The Loonie Is Spreading Its Wings!

For the loonie, the wind has certainly changed since May, thanks to a more aggressive BoC (chart 6). Since the financial crisis, we’ve only seen one time period when the Canadian dollar has shot up so dramatically (chart 7). When looking at chart 7, we notice most of these significant movements were either caused by exogenous risks (such as the financial crisis) and/or crude oil fluctuations. However, the current spike has been mainly caused by monetary policy decisions.  Full Report
